Davey Villalobos

Illustrator, Writer

Davey resides in El Paso, Texas with his family and siblings.

He has been drawing his whole life as early as age 4. Davey does 90% of his work alfresco while listening to music (from the smooth sounds of Dean Martin to the ear blasting riffs of Slayer).

Some of his favorite illustrators are Salvador Dali, Frank Frazzetta, Bob Kane (Batman). He enjoys being creative, intuitive and letting his imagination run wild. Davey will be publishing his first book this year.   He is a proud uncle of two and enjoys bike riding.  To view some of the art illustrations on YouTube, click here.

Davey’s art has been compared to Dr. Seuss with his hand-drawn illustrations.  He believes in the mission of Unicorn Jazz and works just as hard as Caprelli to bring entertaining stories with powerful messages that children will be drawn to again and again.

Some of the popular pages of Unicorn Jazz children’s books have been turned into coloring pages and other products, including the Unicorn Jazz plush toy.

Unicorn Jazz Friendship Ambassadors:

Matthew Vasquez voice of Trezekke unicorn puppet and nurse

Matthew Vasquez

Puppet voice and Healthcare worker

As a puppet character, “I help kids smile, play make believe and learn with our kids show UNICORN JAZZ presents THE THING I DO!” Yes, I get to work with my mom, Lisa Caprelli, the creator.

As a traveling registered nurse (RN), Matthew Vasquez brings his charm, authenticity, and proficiency to the nursing profession. His empathy and sweet sense of humor allows him to connect with his patients on an individual level making it a personable and comfortable experience for each of his patients and their family members.

Having a passion for helping people and a love for travel, Matthew first discovered travel nursing while attending school in Detroit, Michigan. Starting his career on a neurosciences floor caring for patients, he then began travel nursing alongside his wife whom is also a registered nurse.

Traveling and nursing in different cities around the US, Matthew and his wife Lori love the outdoors and exploring new cities. Architecture is also something he appreciates while traveling around.

A usual shift for Matthew in his current assignment includes caring for patients with various neurological diagnoses, assessing cardiac rhythms, monitoring for critical changes, and helping out the floor. What Matthew enjoys the most about his work day is getting the opportunity to connect with patients, co-workers and to just make people feel good and help them! Educating other co-workers and his patients on diseases and conditions is a huge part of his typical day at work, and something he takes particular pride in. He has been a nurse for over 6 years, specializing in telemetry, while experienced working in several areas of nursing including cardiology and neurology.

To Priscilla, being happy means spending time with her family and friends with lots of energy, laughter, and amusement. The daughter of Kristal and Jose, Priscilla’s favorite color is black and she enjoys learning new things in her computer class. She loves to swim, read all sorts of graphic novels and picture books and sees herself as a veterinarian when she grows up.

In Priscilla’s Own Words:

What does friendship mean to you?

“Friendship is when someone is there for you. One of my best friends is Maxine. She is there for me through thick and thin. She helps me with my homework, plays with me, and helped me feel better when I was getting bullied”.

If you had a magic wand, what is one superpower you want to give yourself?

I would want to have speed like Flash because he is my favorite superhero.

It is a fun time when… “My mom and I go get ice cream, go to the pool, and get chocolate covered strawberries.”‘

I like it when my dad plays basketball with me.

A time where I was brave was when I read my first story online and posted it.  I was afraid of what people would think that they would, perhaps, reject me.  It turned out that everyone loved the books I read.

Sophia, Ambassador

Sophia is a sweet and beautiful addition to our team sharing positive messages of kindness and friendship. She is the daughter of Lizette and Alvaro, who have four children, including three sons.  Sophia enjoys learning from her talented mother, Lizette, who is owner of OC Studios by Lizette.

“Being happy is playing with my dog or horseback riding,” says Sophia.  She loves playing with her dogs and laughs when they turn themselves upside down.  Her favorite books right now are Wonder, Wild Robot and Winn Dixie. Science is a subject she enjoys at school and her favorite color is teal.  She enjoys having picnics with her family. She believes friendship is important because it makes you learn how to be brave and approach people as well.

What do you like to do most with your mom?  Play hide and seek. Watch Sophia the First, a cartoon or bake cookies.  We also have fun with simple things like painting our nails.

What do you like to do with your dad?   Ride my bike.  He taught me how to go on the monkey bars.  I like when he tells me stories about when he was in the army, too.

On being an entrepreneur:  It’s important to have fun while you work.  My mom has taught me that.

What do you want to do when you grow up?  Be an actress, ride horses, or be a teacher for horseback riding.

Recent achievement:  Making the honor roll and “A” for the Day which is a prestigious feat at her school where students recognize her.

“My writing helps parents and educators have important conversations with children that include compassion and understanding.  Through social skills and communication, children can do much more than they ever realized.  Some top takeaways from my children’s books have been: “I am different and that’s awesome.”  “We’re all different as human beings.” “We all thrive for friendship, kindness and love in our lives.”  -LC

Social Emotional Intelligence learning has been recognized in Unicorn Jazz books as important and necessary for children.  The first book introduces the character, Woof the Crow, who believes in Unicorn Jazz.  After the story is read, I point out how sometimes it takes just one person to believe in you, or for you to believe in them, to change your life.

Because of the need for more dual language learning, we’re doing everything we can to reach English and Spanish speaking communities.
