The Flying Taco™, named after my mom Esperanza, whose name means hope. Now, Hope takes readers on a whirlwind journey across six worldly places, bringing joy, culture, and kindness to kids everywhere—with special pages devoted to California and Texas (where the author has roots in).
This book is my heart. It’s our legacy. And it’s for every child with a big dream and a bigger imagination.
Speaker Lisa Caprelli loves traveling the globe to champion children’s hopes and dreams. KIDS LAUGH WHEN I SHARE THAT MY MOM IS A FLYING TACO! I named The Flying Taco after my sweet mama, Esperanza—her name means “hope,” and she has always been my greatest inspiration.
Through this book, I invite you to dream, imagine, and travel the world. This book is deeply personal to me. It’s more than a story—it’s a tribute. My talented illustrator and cousin, Davey Villalobos, poured his heart into the artwork. Sharing this book now feels like a sacred honor—one that allows me to carry on our shared vision and keep his vibrant creativity alive for generations of children to enjoy.

Four family members bring my book to life. Meet the team behind this special book:
Lisa Caprelli – Passionate about leaving a legacy for future generations, Lisa shares the love and joy of storytelling and music with children. As the author of 23 books in English and Spanish, including the beloved Unicorn Jazz and In His Image series, she inspires positive messages that spark imagination, creativity, and hope.
Matthew Vasquez, RN – A dedicated nurse with a heart of gold, Matthew brings compassion, inspiration, and humor to every project. As the puppeteer of Trezekke the Zebracorn, a speaker, and co-author, he helped shape this adventure with his storytelling. Beyond writing, he also handled the book’s design, graphic layout, cover art, and binding—bringing The Flying Taco to life from start to finish.

Suzanne Funk, M.Ed. – An Early Childhood Specialist, devoted wife, and dedicated mother. After years of shaping young minds in the classroom, Suzanne embarked on a new journey in the world of barbecue. As the founder and co-owner of Desert Oak BBQ, she combines her love for family, community, and authentic flavors, creating a welcoming space where great food and hospitality come together.
Davey Villalobos – The brilliant artist behind our books, Davey brought our adventures to life with vibrant illustrations that leap off every page. Drawing was his passion from the moment he could hold a crayon, and his incredible talent continues to inspire readers everywhere. His art and legacy live on in every story.

Do-It Challenge to Use Teamwork Concept from my blog: “Fly Your Story” (Travel Edition)
Design a place on Earth you’d love to visit—Flying Taco style. Use your imagination by blending art, planning, and words.
- Dream it (5 min): Sketch 3 tiny versions of your destination. Add quick notes—food, landmarks, animals, colors. No erasing—just ideas!
- Plan it (10 min): Pick your best sketch and jot:
- A title
- 3 highlights (e.g., coral reef, castle, street tacos)
- 3 sense details (what you’d see/hear/smell)
- 1 act of kindness you’d do there
- Build the words (15 min): Make a two-page spread:
- Left page: final art of the place
- Right page: headline + 2–3 captions + a 5–7 sentence mini-story
- Share & improve (5 min): Swap pages. Give one Glow (what’s great) and one Grow (one fix). Make a tiny edit. → You just used your whole brain.
