As an entrepreneur and while building a great career helping CEO’s and leaders to turn their business into meaningful brands, Lisa went on a two and a half year mission researching and interviewing 13 notable entrepreneurs on what makes for a MEANINGFUL, HAPPY and PROSPEROUS life to be able to give back voices through stories for young readers. Enter her book and journal Skip a Step: Imparting Wisdom For Young Entrepreneur Minds. It was through Skip a Step that she fulfilled her own life’s purpose to write and create imaginative stories. Besides being a full-time author, she owns a boutique publishing company to help other authors realize their dream of writing and publishing. She is most proud of helping three teenagers who are on the low economic spectrum from El Paso so that they could add “author” to their resume and increase college acceptance.
This best-selling author is proud to be the first generation to graduate from college, graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Social Psychology. Her quest for studying human behavior and teaching is seen in her author visits, children’s book Orange County, California school visits and other U.S. States. She believes in community outreach and volunteering as seen with her reach and storytelling with children’s hospitals..
Coming from an influence of of educators, including early childhood teachers, principals and librarians, she enjoys keeping up and teaching latest trends in technology to leverage and collaborate with great leaders to make stories and the love of reading meaningful.
“My writing helps parents and educators have important conversations with children that include compassion and understanding. Through social skills and communication, children can do much more than they ever realized. Some top takeaways from my children’s books have been: “I am different and that’s awesome.” “We’re all different as human beings.” “We all thrive for friendship, kindness and love in our lives.”
Social Emotional Intelligence learning has been recognized in Unicorn Jazz books as important and necessary for children. The first book introduces the character, Woof the Crow, who believes in Unicorn Jazz. After the story is read, I point out how sometimes it takes just one person to believe in you, or for you to believe in them, to change your life.
Davey resides in El Paso, Texas with his family and siblings. He has been drawing his whole life as early as age 4. Davey does 90% of his work alfresco while listening to music (from the smooth sounds of Dean Martin to the ear blasting riffs of Slayer). Some of his favorite illustrators are Salvador Dali, Frank Frazzetta, Bob Kane (Batman). He enjoys being creative, intuitive and letting his imagination run wild. Davey will be publishing his first book this year. He is a proud uncle of two and enjoys bike riding. To view some of the art illustrations on YouTube, click here.
Davey’s art has been compared to Dr. Seuss with his hand-drawn illustrations. He believes in the mission of Unicorn Jazz and works just as hard as Caprelli to bring entertaining stories with powerful messages that children will be drawn to again and again. Some of the popular pages of Unicorn Jazz children’s books have been turned into coloring pages and other products, including the Unicorn Jazz plush toy.
Unicorn Jazz Friendship Ambassadors:
Sophia is a sweet and beautiful addition to our team sharing positive messages of kindness and friendship. She is the daughter of Lizette and Alvaro, who have four children, including three sons. Sophia enjoys learning from her talented mother, Lizette, who is owner of OC Studios by Lizette.
“Being happy is playing with my dog or horseback riding,” says Sophia. She loves playing with her dogs and laughs when they turn themselves upside down. Her favorite books right now are Wonder, Wild Robot and Winn Dixie. Science is a subject she enjoys at school and her favorite color is teal. She enjoys having picnics with her family. She believes friendship is important because it makes you learn how to be brave and approach people as well.
What do you like to do most with your mom? Play hide and seek. Watch Sophia the First, a cartoon or bake cookies. We also have fun with simple things like painting our nails.
What do you like to do with your dad? Ride my bike. He taught me how to go on the monkey bars. I like when he tells me stories about when he was in the army, too.
On being an entrepreneur: It’s important to have fun while you work. My mom has taught me that.
What do you want to do when you grow up? Be an actress, ride horses, or be a teacher for horseback riding.
Recent achievement: Making the honor roll and “A” for the Day which is a prestigious feat at her school where students recognize her.
Kanani enjoys learning from teachers at every grade she has been in so far. Her favorite color is teal and her favorite subject at school is reading. She is the daughter of Rg and Jacquie who are also proud parents of their son, Xander.
IN HER OWN WORDS:
It’s a fun time when my mom and I build pillow forts. It’s fun because my mom makes awesome forts where we can lay around inside them and it feels like a slumber party. I like it when my dad plays basketball with me. He teaches me how to shoot the ball, dribble the ball, and play good defense.
What does friendship mean to you? Friendship is when someone is kind and nice to you and there for you when you need help.
Give an example of what a good friend has done for you: My friend Delilah asked me if anything was wrong, when I wasn’t happy, one day at school. We talked about it and she gave me some answers and I felt better afterwards. That’s a friend.
If you had a magic wand, what is one superpower you would wish for? I wish I could turn into any animal to be near them. Some animals are dangerous or could be aggressive like a lion, but being one of the animals, gives me a better chance to get close to them and learn about them.
Who is your favorite superhero? I like Batgirl. She has a ton of cool gadgets and she’s a girl!
Do you have an idea of what you may want to be or do when you are grown up? When I grow up I want to be a designer or a dog sitter. As a designer, I have lots of ideas for clothes and jewelry. I want to partner with one of my friends, Aily, who wants to actually make all of the clothes, necklaces, and bracelets. If I were a dog sitter, I would like it because I just love dogs.
What is one story where you were bold or brave? I was nervous the first time playing a piano recital in front of a large group of people. I didn’t think about the crowd since I had friends there to make me feel comfortable and I saw them supporting me and it made me relaxed.
