Unicorn Jazz & Thornwell School for the Arts Artist Workshops in Hartsville, SC

Chartered as a town on December 11, 1891, Hartsville is currently the largest city in Darlington County, South Carolina. Home of Coker University and the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Science and Mathematics, of which actor/comedian Anziz Ansari is an alumnus of, Hartsville is served by its own Hartsville Regional Airport and is named after Captain Thomas E. Hart who once owned most of the land in the area.

Hartsville is known for its annual events among locals, such as the “Screen on the Green” summer family event that shows movies for free to the public at Burry Park. Other fun events include “RenoFest”, a bluegrass music festival honoring Dono Reno, bluegrass legend and South Carolina Native, a Christmas Parade, and a Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting where children can enjoy musical performances and submit letters to Santa Claus himself. The motto of Hartsville is “A Small Town with a Big Heart”.

Unicorn Jazz & Thornwell School Author Visit

On November 17, 2021, the award-winning author of the children’s Unicorn Jazz stories and free songs, Lisa Caprelli, will be presenting to the young learners of the Thornwell School in two sessions virtually. We at Unicorn Jazz are excited for the opportunity to join up with the staff and students of Thornwell as part of our author visit program.

Located in the Darlington School District, the Thornwell School is devoted to nurturing a safe and supportive educational environment where students can excel and develop their full potential. With an emphasis on community partnerships and inspiring creativity, the mission of Thornwell School for the Arts is to raise its student body into successful, responsible, and productive citizens who love to lead and learn – the two things we also love to instill in our young readers at Unicorn Jazz!
