The city of Aurora, Illinois, is receiving a fun and engaging author visit led by Unicorn Jazz creator, Lisa Caprelli, to the West Aurora School of McCleery Elementary on Thursday, January 20th, 2022.

What is now the city of Aurora originally started off as two villages on the eastern and western sides of the Fox River, which were appropriately named East Aurora and West Aurora. The two towns officially become one city in 1857. Today, Aurora is home to over 180,000 residents making it the second most populated place in Illinois behind its state capital of Chicago.

Around 41 miles west of Chicago, Aurora is located in the counties of DuPage, Kane, Kendall, and Will. Aurora is also home to Stolp Island and its iconic downtown locale hosts the Paramount Theatre – a building that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Unicorn Jazz & McCleery Elementary School Author Visit

On January 20, 2022, the award-winning author of the children’s Unicorn Jazz stories and songs, Lisa Caprelli, will be presenting to the young learners of McCleery Elementary in 3 sessions virtually, and we at Unicorn Jazz are excited for the opportunity to join up with the staff and students of the West Aurora School District as part of our virtual World Read Across America Tour.

Part of West Aurora School District 129 and home of the Mustang mascot, McCleery Elementary was constructed in 1957. The school is named after Illinois native, Wayne E. McCleery, who served as superintendent of the West Aurora Schools from 1950-1953 and expanded and modernized the School District to include all grade levels of primary and high school education. With a passion for student excellence both inside the classroom and out, McCleery Elementary is focused on ensuring a quality education in academics, music, arts, health, and the like.
